About the Farm
Milkweed Colour Farm is located in Corbeil Ontario. This multi-generational farm had cattle and mixed crops on the land a generation ago, and most recently, hay. Knowing the potential of the picturesque landscape, the Milkweed team knew it would be the perfect site for the home of their colour farm. Thanks to the enthusiasm of a wonderful father in-law, the site has been plowed and is now planted in Canadian sourced, multi-coloured tulip, daffodils, snow crocus and three delicious garlic varieties. Heirloom and non-GMO varieties of zinnias, asters, cosmos, calendula, coriopsis, madder root, sunflowers (to name a few), and other herbs, dyes, fibres, annuals and perennials will be added to the mix.

Regarding Milkweed the Plant
Common Milkweed (asclepias syriaca) is native to North America, and is known for her healing properties and use in folk remedies. The leaves are the only food source for Monarch butterflies, while the nectar is an essential food source for native pollinators. The seed fluff can be used as an alternative to down and the stalks can be spun into a fine fibre. The pods and flower buds can also be prepared and eaten. The multi-purpose nature of the plant is the perfect namesake for a farm growing plants that are also often used for culinary, medicinal and dye purposes.
Farming Philosophy
At Milkweed Colour Farm, we love our soil. Our farming practices are ecological and on the road to regenerative; which means that we take a holistic approach to growing plants that focus on improving soil health, increasing biodiversity (both above ground and below), and using only organic, biodynamic or sustainable approaches to disease, pest and predator control.
